Name Announced for
New Beavercreek Hospital:
The Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center
On May 4, the announcement was made: a Beavercreek family is now associated with healing and care in their hometown for decades to come.
Kettering Health Network officials announced that one of the most significant gifts in Dayton’s history has been presented by the Soin family – the Network’s new Beavercreek hospital will bear the name of The Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center. It is located at 3535 Pentagon Blvd. in Beavercreek, Ohio.
It is the first full-service hospital in greater Dayton to be named for an individual or couple since the Charles F. Kettering Memorial Hospital was contributed to the community by Eugene and Virginia Kettering and other community donors. This is not the first hospital to bear the Soin name — Raj Soin is the main contributor to the Sukhdev Raj Soin Hospital recently built in India in memory of his late father.
The Soins have a lengthy history of philanthropy in Dayton and abroad. Wright State University has the Raj Soin School of Business, Children’s Medical Center has the Soin Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center, and the Soins donated 188 acres for the Beavercreek Golf Club.
“Our philanthropic activities are typically concentrated in two areas: education and healthcare,” Raj Soin said. “I strongly believe in the adage that once you provide a person with education, it gives them capabilities for lifelong earnings and they do not need any ongoing support. The only restriction they can have after that is if they are not in good health, which is why we focus our activities in education and health care. We chose to assist Kettering Health Network in their project because we share a mission to improve the quality of life for the people in our community.”
“We can’t thank the Soins enough for their commitment to their hometown and to Dayton in general,” said Frank Perez, CEO. “They are committed to making Dayton a better place to live and committed to making Beavercreek a complete community with recreational activity, higher education, business and now health care. Their support is so meaningful, and they are truly some of the greatest philanthropists this town has ever seen.”
Raj Soin graduated from Delhi University in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to America soon after and earned a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Bradley University. He continued post-graduate studies in business and finance at Illinois State University and Bradley and the advanced management programs at Harvard University and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
“We have been living in Beavercreek and the Dayton area for over 26 years, and this is the area where we have spent more time than anywhere else in the world,” Soin said. “Our children have grown up in this area and we are very attached to this region. Your philanthropic activities naturally go in the region where you are located — where you can see the need first hand.”
“My desire to give back was inherited,” Soin added. “I learned a lot from my father, who was a very giving man. Watching that as I grew up influenced me greatly, and it was adopted in our way of working. My definition of success is being able to do what you like. We feel blessed that life has given us the opportunity to do just that and allowed us the ability to invest in the future of our community.”
In 1978, Indu and Raj Soin proudly became American citizens around the time Raj was concluding seven years with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. After working at Williams International in several roles, he decided to pursue a business of his own. Raj and Indu founded Modern Technologies Corporation (MTC) starting with $1,700 in cash, a handful of credit cards and a dream. The Soins’ new company soon grew to serve the Department of Defense in providing engineering and technical services. MTC quickly became an incubator that spawned numerous businesses in a variety of industries.
The Soins’ elder son Vishal is on the Board of Dayton Children’s hospital, and their younger son Amol is a physician practicing in the area. Raj Soin has been active in shaping the health care landscape as well, as he has been a member of the KHN Board for a number of years.
“The Soins are a true American success story, and we are very grateful that they have chosen to support the Kettering Health Network in such a meaningful way in advancing our mutual vision for taking quality health care to the people,” said Fred Manchur, KHN president.
