Helping Employees with Holiday Gift Wrapping!

For the third year, complimentary holiday gift wrapping was offered to employees in December at Grandview, Greene Memorial, Kettering, Southview and Sycamore hospitals.

This popular, free service is a gesture of thanks for all employees from Kettering Health Network. Staff members were invited to bring in small gift items to be wrapped free of charge. Holiday helpers had them wrapped and ready for everyone to pick up the very same day to help save precious time during the hectic holiday season.

Feedback for this holiday service has been very positive. Here´s what one employee had to say:
"Please let Administration know how wonderful the gift wrapping was! Eating at a holiday dinner is nice, but puts more weight on that I don't need; however, wrapping gifts for employees gives us considerable time back to do the other things needed to get ready for the holidays. I for one am VERY appreciative, as not having to wrap presents gave me the extra time I needed to be ready before 4 a.m. Christmas morning. I will actually get a good night´s rest and enjoy the holiday without being half asleep this year! The gift of time was such a blessing. Thank you!"

Thanksgiving Dinner Gives Back to Community

On November 10, Greene Memorial Hospital held its Annual Greene Rehabilitation Center Thanksgiving Dinner at Faith Community Church in Xenia, for current patients, former patients and their families.

The tradition began in 1995 in the Greene Memorial Hospital cafeteria, and then moved to Faith Community Church in 1996. The event began as a result of two former male patients who had commented to the therapists and nursing staff that they had no family with which to share Thanksgiving dinner. They said they wanted some turkey and mashed potatoes. This staff saw this need and thought it would be an excellent way to give back to the community.

Former patients and their families bring side dishes and deserts to share and Greene Rehabilitation Center provides the turkey, ham, potatoes and drinks, plus live entertainment, such as music and the GMH staff member Dave Davis´ Magic Show.

One staff member in particular stands out among all involved – her name is Deb Moore. Deb has been cooking this dinner since 1996. This year alone, she prepared 135 pounds of turkey, 36 pounds of ham, and 40 pounds of potatoes with three gallons of gravy, 20 pounds of stuffing and 18 pounds of green beans. While she no longer works in the Greene Rehabilitation Center, but in Same Day Surgery, she continues to unselfishly donate her time to this Thanksgiving meal without ever expecting anything in return.

Brighter Holidays For Nursing Home Residents

Each year, Grandview Medical Center employees bring a little joy to brighten the lives of local nursing home residents this month by throwing holiday parties for two neighborhood nursing centers.

Once again this year, holiday gifts, delicious food, Christmas cards, festive music, plus a little care and kindness were given to residents of Grafton Oaks Nursing Center on December 3, and to residents of Harborside of Dayton on December 8.

These annual holiday events, hosted by our generous employees, truly demonstrate the spirit of the season!
